Lens Escapades: Using a Needle to Life a Lens, Yamane Fixation Video

Title: Lens Escapades: Using a Needle to Life a Lens, Yamane Fixation Video
Author: Austin S. Nakatsuka, MD

Brief Description: In this video, a dislocated lens was about to fall to the back of the eye! So I used a bent 30 gauge needle that I stick in the pars plana (the “safe zone” that avoids the retina) to lift the lens into the anterior chamber. Once I do this, I can safely remove the lens without it dropping onto the retina!! In this case, I tried to place a 3 piece lens in the sulcus space but it turned out that the capsular bag was not able to support it as it had a large area of weak zonules. So I scleral fixated the lens with the double needle haptic flange technique (yamane) and then removed the rest of the capsular bag.
