Title: First Black Cataract
Author: Austin Nakatsuka, MD
Date: 6/21/2024
Description: My first experience with a black cataract (a very dense cataract that is nearly impossible to break up). I had to extracapsular extract this lens which means I removed the whole lens through a large wound. The patient actually ended up doing fine, she didn’t have too much visual potential but she could see light better afterwards, her cornea cleared up, she did not have any major complications and we could see her retina after all of this.
