Title: 30 g Needle to Remove Haptic Flange
Author: Austin S. Nakatsuka, MD
Date: 01/15/2025
Brief Description: I use a 30 gauge needle to remove the haptic flange for a flanged haptic lens that needs to be removed. Using a 30 gauge needle is easier than a forcep because often the forcep is too bulky and large to grab the flange easily so a sharper instrument like the needle is better to embed in the flange and externalize it. Once the haptic flange is externalized outside of the ostomy, then it can be cut off and the haptic is then removed internally.
