Brief Description: This is a research presentation of the effects of fenofibrate, a PPAR-alpha agonist, on diabtic retinopathy. The FIELD study and ACCORD studies of fenofibrate in diabetic retinopathy are discussed. The effect of fenofibrate in type I and type II diabetics is also discussed. Research into the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy and mechanism of action of fenofibrate is presented. The role of PPAR-alpha in the retina is also described.
