Brief Description: This is a research presentation of the genetics and biology of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD, AMD). The discovery of the role of complement factor H and other complement pathways in AMD is discussed. ARMS2 and HTRA1 are also discussed. The presence of multiple phenotypes in AMD and their significance are discussed. Reticular pseudodrusen, drusen and other drusenoid materials are discussed. The systemic correlations between AMD and other disorders such as myocardial infarction are also discussed.
